I have to admit, over the past several years I have come to make certain assumptions about veterinarians. Chiefly the presumption that they all reason in the same, interchangeable manner. That because they have all been programmed in the same way, none would be open to an unfamiliar methodology. That none would think with a preventative strategy. On the run-up to launching TrueFoodForDogs I had every expectation that those concerns would be realized. That vets would immediately assume any food for dogs needed to come from a bag or a can – and preferably with a Hills Science Diet label.
Boy was I wrong. We opened our dog kitchen 82 days ago and in that time we have been approached by vets from Newport Beach
, Huntington Beach
, Costa Mesa
and Santa Monica
. Some came in with an open mind, some were a little skeptical but all came on their own volition and I believe, all left convinced that our food and nutritional profiles were very impressive. In some cases they have begun to feed their own personal dogs our food. In some cases they have asked us to formulate specific meals for dogs with special dietary needs and in many
cases, they have referred their patients to us so that we might help find answers.
It is important to note that not one of these doctors have asked us for anything. There are no ‘referral’ payments or ‘endorsement’ fees, nor do we ‘hire’ them as consultants. They came to us to see if we might be part of a solution for clients they care about… or maybe they originally came to confirm that we were not a new form of dog food quackery pouncing on their canine clients… but in either case their intentions were pure. Veterinarians want the best for their patients; and clearly are willing to go the extra mile for them!

At TrueFoodForDogs we start with the highest quality, USDA certified, restaurant grade meats, fresh vegetables and whole grains, all of which are approved for human consumption.
We cook our homemade food for dogs, puppy foods and dog treats in small batches in our own dog kitchen and dog bakery. This is a critical point as it relates to quality control and commitment. All of our healthy food for dogs recipes are prepared by cooking our all natural ingredients to the minimum allowed temperature in order to preserve the maximum nutritional value. Whole grains and fresh vegetables must be cooked to a very specific point so that nutrients are preserved and a dog’s system can still benefit from the nourishment these healthy dog food ingredients offer.
Our dog kitchen and dog bakery in Newport
Beach, California was designed from an
empty shell with only one purpose in mind- Making the world’s best food for dogs. We didn’t convert some ‘out of business’ restaurant or alter some old catering kitchen, we built our space from scratch, dominated by our dog kitchen, for this sole purpose. Every piece of equipment and its location is strategic to our homemade food for dogs. “Gentle cooking” is not just marketing jargon. Cooking fresh food for dogs to the minimum allowable temperatures is much more difficult than overcooking everything and putting it in a can or a bag, but your dog will benefit greatly from this process. All of the ingredients in our recipes– meats, vegetables, etc. deliver far greater nutritional value when cooked properly. Under cooked and a dog’s system cannot digest the ingredients (which makes them useless). Over cook and there is little or no nutritional value remaining.
