Not Bad For A Six Year-Old!

 6-years-image_blog

You can have the greatest idea in the world but unless others validate it with action it won’t go anywhere and you won’t reshape anything. When we opened our first location in January 2011 we sincerely set out to change the world… if you were a dog. And without the hyper consciousness and inspired advocacy of our customers, a lot of pets would still be eating deleterious little brown pellets. It is genuinely and truly thanks to you (we have the best customers in the world!) that we have thrived over these past six years. With the addition of Long Beach last month we now have 8 JustFoodForDogs locations and we are more excited than ever to be partnering with some of the best vets in southern California! Thank you.

I wanted to share with you some of what we have accomplished together… and I do mean together.

  • Almost 300 dogs (and some cats too) saved through rescue events held at our stores with adoption fees paid for by JFFD!
  • Only pet food in the U.S. that executed feeding trials without using “institutional” dogs.
  • First whole food diet using USDA ingredients for humans but nutritionally balanced for pets.
  • Only food on the market clinically shown to boost the immune system is dogs.
  • Only human grade pet food with a line of prescription food to address special dietary needs for sick dogs.
  • Only small batch company with staff vets that are full time and actually accessible.
Thank you for permitting us to partner with you in the health of your pet… and allowing us to come to work every day and do what we love – helping pets live longer, healthier lives. We literally could not do it without you.

Happy New Year.

I just want to let u know how much I appreciate justfoodfordogs here in the Midwest. I feel such a sense of pride every time I cook for my girls using your DIY recipes/supplements. I lost a poodle 5 yrs ago from diabetes then suffered from renal failure-I was told she had to be on Iams weight control food. Her blood sugars were never under control. Looking back I know that it was the worst stuff ever. it still breaks my heart I didn’t know better. Since then I have a new vet who is very supportive of what I am feeding my 5 & 2 yr olds. She admitted to me they get very little info in school about nutrition. She was very interested in what I showed her that she wanted a copy. I tell everyone I cook for my girls using your DIY recipes/supplements. Do you share your info with the schools/vet clinics? When I lost my Lacey 5 yrs ago I went in search of a better way but feared ESP the Ca/Phos balance so struggled with the idea of preparing their food. When I found your company I JUST KNEW you were the right thing for my girls! I can’t thank you enough for balancing it all out in your recipes/supplements. I simply can’t thank you enough.<3 Have a supper happy new year!

      Karen,

We absolutely love dogs – it is why we do what we do! Love to hear your story and that your dogs are now thriving on fresh, whole, real food. We thank you! for all that you do for your dogs.

We do work with WesternU veterinary students and I myself do give talks at various vet student clubs that invite us to speak. We agree with you that the word needs to get out about fresh whole food vs. processed kibble and cans made from feed grade ingredients that are not suitable for human consumption.

Thank you for helping spread the word!

Weird question, but are the cannisters recyclable? I’m at my wits end. I went grain-free shortly after I adopted my weimaraner (likely plus Labrador retriever) mix. Riesa has chronic ear infections with flair ups, gurgle guts, and her coat is good, but dry and dandruff present in winter. She’s 7 years old. Her older brother, Nova, is a 8 year old Vizsla, had a tummy of steel, coat of silk, and energy galore still. He gets itchy rarely. I guess Taste of the Wild (Bison and Venison) is not appropriate for my girl.

      Hi Jennifer,

Generally speaking, we believe that real, human edible foods are much healthier than anything in a bag or a can. If you think about it, kibble is meat and other ingredients, in a bag, shelf stable at room temperature, for up to 2 years. The chemicals and preservatives that are needed alone are concerning. Yes, dogs are different, and some have a more resilient GI tract than others. But what we are now learning is that they are not all as resilient. Some dogs eating these processed foods are developing serious illnesses like Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Most commercial kibbles and cans are made with feed grade ingredients – not fit for human consumption. The larger pet food industry is relying on utilizing our pets to dispose of their scraps – and resilient dogs won’t have any immediate issues – but we worry about the long term effects.

In contrast feeding fresh whole foods – is just that – and we believe it’s much healthier. The canisters are made of aluminum and can be recycles. Also all of our packaging for shipping our frozen product can be recycled, even the liners.

Hope that helps. If you have any other question please give our team a call or visit our website,

Any plans on opening a facility in Northern California or veterinarians who will sell your products?

      Hi Vicki,

Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, we do plan to have both JFFD Kitchens and Pantries in the bay area (we love it up there!) no later than the end of this year. Until then, all of our products can be ordered through our website at http://www.justfoodfordogs.com. We have free shipping to the states of CA, NV, AZ, and UT for frozen orders over $125, and free shipping to all 48 contiguous states for dry goods (treats, supplements, and DIY kits) for orders over $50.
